The ‘Clamshell Carstand’ by Beijing-based design studio Ballistic Architecture Machine (BAM) provides a temporary exhibition structure for the showcasing of cars. Loosely modeled after the clamshell showcasing Botticelli’s Venus, the stand is composed of CNC-cut bamboo plywood, finished in matte purple paint on its exterior, and featuring a mirrored stainless steel interior lit by recessed cold cathode tubes.
‘In china, people love cars,’ the designers add; ‘Beijing alone is adding cars at a rate of 2,000 new vehicles on the road per day. [The ‘Clamshell Carstand’] celebrates Beijing’s Burgeoning custom car culture.’
