Apple’s next mission is to “reinvent the textbook” with their latest foray into digital publishing. The company’s partnered with textbook makers Pearson, McGraw Hill and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, as the trio are responsible for 90 percent of all textbooks sold, to bring a further educational experience to the iPad. Along with that, they’ve also announced the iBooks Author feature which allows budding intellectual minds to integrate different types of media in order to create iBooks of any stripe. VP of Productivity Applications, Roger Rosner said that “clearly, no printed book can compete with this.” You’ll be able to download iBooks 2 from the App Store free of charge, while textbooks themselves will cost $14.99 USD or less.
